About the Artist, Jeffrey J. Boron
Jeffrey J. Boron, a well-known professional artist, works in acrylic and oil, attempting to capture the play of light and colour on the natural world. Many of his smaller plein air pieces are painted among the hills and meadows of southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands that still retain remnant stands of Garry oaks.
“As an artist I want my paintings to bring to the viewer a sense of the joy I feel when painting them, as well as highlighting the wonder and beauty of those small spots of nature that we live amongst but so often overlook in our busy lives.”

About the Artist, Amy Heggie
Artist Amy Heggie is well-known for her photo-realistic drawings. This Garry oak tree is the largest of its kind in Canada and grows in the Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve. Amy does not have a website but her exquisite work can be purchased at the Pender Island Farmer’s Market.
“This tree became symbolic of a special person’s bravery and love during a difficult family loss while I was drawing it. The process took on a life of its own and was a very powerful and moving experience. This oak was drawn completely by sight, taking approximately 30 hours.”

About the Artist, Stuart Duncan
Stuart Duncan’s drawing of this mature Garry oak tree celebrates the beauty and strength of nature and our connection to it. This tree has lived for hundreds of years and in that time 95% of its habitat has been lost. This Garry oak grows on Vancouver Island’s Saanich Peninsula near the Deep Cove Store.
“I live on 12 acres of western Canadian forest filled with birds, animals and ponds so I only need to open the front door or look out the window to see shooting stars, lilies, Garry oaks, deer, ravens and hummingbirds. I believe that when we look at the colours and lines of a bird, the beautiful shape of a plant, or the movement of a deer, we recognize within us the beauty and strength of nature. I believe it is important to celebrate the natural world around us because we are a part of it.”

“Every piece I make is individually handcrafted from Canadian sterling silver. What begins as a flat sheet of metal is sawn, polished, engraved, filed, shaped, hammered and washed many times until I am satisfied that the piece is perfect, front and back.”
