This RIG works on protection and recovery of vertebrates at risk. Tasks include completing assessments and initial planning, followed by initiating action toward sustaining and expanding populations of vertebrates at risk that are designated Endangered, Threatened, or of management concern.
Initiatives to date include contributions to the Recovery Strategy for the Horned Lark strigata subspecies (Eremophila alpestris strigata) with consideration for the Vesper Sparrow affinis subspecies (Pooecetes gramineus affinis) in Canada, the Western Bluebird re-introduction program, contributions to the field manual titled Species at Risk in Garry Oak and Associated Ecosystems in British Columbia, along with longer stewardship accounts of Lewis’s Woodpecker, Coastal Vesper Sparrow, Western Meadowlark, and Western Bluebird.
