The Western Bluebird breeding season is in full swing and if you live in the Cowichan Valley, our field team is sure to be surveying for bluebirds and monitoring nestboxes near you. So you can put a name to the face when one or both of them turn up at your front door (or in your field or yard!), meet Reanna Shelling, Western Bluebird Technician (right) and Ryan Hetschko, Conservation Assistant (left).
Reanna is a Vancouver Island University Biology grad and a skilled bird bander who joins our field team for a second season. Ryan studies Sustainability and Conservation at the University of Victoria, and joins us as a summer student through Canada Summer Jobs. If you see them in the field, stop and say hello — they are always happy to talk about the project and what you can do to help bring back the bluebirds.
