The Research RIG oversees research in Garry oak ecosystems recovery, helping to target and track research in key areas and maintaining a link between the academic research world and the practical world of hands-on restoration and species at risk recovery.

Current Research Underway

See our featured research projects to read about some of the research currently underway in Garry oak and associated ecosystems. If you’d like to add your project to this page, please contact us.

Though there has been considerable research, there is still much to learn about the ecology and threats to Garry oak ecosystems and their associated species at risk. More research is needed in these areas:

  • Ecosystem classification and function
  • Rare species biology
  • Disturbance regimes
  • Invasive species
  • Fragmentation
  • Restoration

Researchers are asked to follow the guidelines in the Recovery Strategy, and consider all potential side effects of their work.
